Overview

We began by identifying real-world needs and exploring innovative solutions through a combination of technical, business, and design expertise. Our goal was to create a concept that monitors fashion's circular journey while promoting sustainable habits by offering an all-in-one fashion management platform. The team conducted a thorough needs assessment through user surveys, market analysis, and narrowing down the target group. We developed the platform’s branding to communicate a clear and intuitive message.

A Critical User Journey (CUJ) was mapped out and refined through several rounds of design iterations and user testing. This allowed us to validate our approach and ensure an optimal user experience. In the final stages, we prepared the project for full development, including both front-end and back-end implementation.

As the product designer, I was responsible for conducting and analyzing user survey, emaphasize with analysis results, defining the CUJ, creating prototypes, and managing the engineering hand-off. This project was completed as part of the Cooperative IT Design course at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

Needs

Inspiration from real-world data

We analyzed data on public perceptions of sustainability and the market size for our target industry. These insights guided us in formulating a hypothesis: there is a clear need for an all-in-one fashion management platform that encourages sustainable and circular habits among consumers.

User Survey

A comprehensive user survey was conducted with the aim to gain a deeper understanding of people's habits and expectations in the space of second-hand clothing. Specifically, we sought to gain insights into consumer behavior, preferences, and motivations regarding second-hand clothing and the unique features that we could offer on our platform. In total, 78 individuals answered the survey.

The result showed:

Solution

Our solution to the identified needs is Floop, an all-in-one platform designed to foster sustainable fashion habits and behaviors. In one platform, people can manage their old and new clothings, explore and get inspired by others, and bid to buy and sell the pre-loved fashion.

Highlight #1 Manage

Users can easily manage their fashion collections on the platform. Image recognition through AI supports this to be even quicker and more seamless.

Registered styles are saved in the user's personal feed, where they can also track where their clothes are stored, similar to books in a library, and view their saved inspirations from others.

Highlight #2 Explore

Users can explore through a loop-shaped feed where they can get inspiration from others. In an ideal scenario, the feed algorithm is based on users' location and style preferences.

Highlight #3 Bid - Buy & Sell

When users find a style they like, they can place a bid on the item to ask the owner if they're willing to sell it. The platform provides price recommendations for the bid so they don't have to look up for adequate price. Then, if the owner accepts, the user can initiate the purchase process.
